Here’s an old article on building a portable sound booth.

Portable soundbooth

Portable soundbooth

It’s written from the perspective of a professional on the road, but is a great idea for those on a tight budget trying to build a well-rounded home studio.

This is my Milwaukee

by mshank on Dec.01, 2008, under Film News

Thisismymilwaukee.com showcases a single video produced with a Champion Dynasty Grant from the Milwaukee Tourism Commission. Check out the video:

Most of the video does not appear to be shot in Milwaukee. Besides this awesomely strange clip, the only other thing on the website is a counter, which appears to actually be a countdown to January 16th, 2009, and a couple links to the designers website. Which makes one a little suspicious… why would they not post links to the Actual Milwaukee Tourism Commission website? Well, google tells me there is no Milwaukee Tourism Commission… In fact the only sites which refer to that entity are linking back to this video. After further exploration, an anonymous wiki was found at pbwiki.com The users have been posting new findings about this strange video daily. Granted, the users are probably a marketing team on Madison Avenue, but its a fun little mystery to follow. We’ll see where it takes us, eh?

Oblong Industries is the developer of the g-speak spatial operating environment. Remember the one used in Minority Report?…

Video Community Outreach

by mshank on Nov.27, 2008, under Film News

Jori Ketten, Originally from Milwaukee, sends home this letter with a video produced by a group of teens she works with.

Phase III Reflections: Daniel Bernard Roumain Residency from Community MusicWorks on Vimeo.

==============

Friends and colleagues:

I invite you to take a minute (well, 9 minutes and 34 seconds) to celebrate with me the voices of Kirby Vasquez, Josh Rodriguez, and Luis Ortiz.

Kirby, Josh, and Luis are Community MusicWorks musicians. They are also juniors in high school who took some time away from homework, practicing, performing, and all the other work that they do to create a short video project that you can view here:

http://www.vimeo.com/2355034

The video is a small window into Kirby, Josh, and Luis’s experiences working with world-famous Daniel Bernard Roumain (www.dbrmusic.com), a Haitian-American composer and violinist who visited Community MusicWorks in October.

While finishing the video yesterday, Kirby (who gave up 10 straight hours of her Saturday to edit) commented that she’s going to write her college essay about this project, and has repeatedly talked about the value of the production skills she has learned. In a pre-production essay, Luis wrote, “The whole experience was intense. I found out who I am, and who I am not. It was like a journey through the important things in my life.” Josh calls his time with DBR “a turning point in my love for music,” and says that working with DBR has inspired him to work harder toward his goal of becoming a music producer.

I hope to be able to share more CMW work like this project in the near future, and I hope that these projects continue to inspire students to think and act. I also hope that if you don’t already know about Community MusicWorks, this video might spark your curiosity. Visit http://communitymusicworks.org/profiles.htm#DBR to learn more about the DBR residency, and browse the rest of the site to see what else CMW is up to.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Jori
